Change Begins In Your Attitude

I know many want to change the way they look and feel, but if you can't take control of your thoughts and actions, then all the wanting in the world, will not bring on that change. It is easier to start a diet tomorrow, next week or next year. We all have New Year's Resolutions that end up as New Years disappointments. But if you give up before you even start then changes are you will not accomplish the goals you set out to do.

Write yourself a contract, set goals and dates to be accomplished, believe in yourself. Take pictures and post them on Face Book to make your self accountable and inspire others at the same time.  If you mess up, don't throw in the towel, just consider it a slip up and carry on. Be motivating, don't put yourself down if you are not going as fast as you would like, baby steps eventually lead to leaps and bounds.

Praise yourself for every inch of progress you make, be happy that you are heading in the right direction and do not let the naysayers bring you down. Remember misery loves company, your out of shape friends and family will want to sabotage your progress, don't let them. Be an inspiration, even if it makes you the odd ball.

Start your resolution now, don't wait till the New Year and get a head start. Remember that your health is the most important thing you have without it life is not worth living.

If you can't live your truth, then its just not worth living.

Calcium Is All In The Shell

We are a nation of waste, we use part of the whole, and discard the rest. Eggs are a perfect example of this, we crack them use the inside and discard the shell. Well did you know that the shell and its membrane has amazing minerals that not only will provide an enormous amount of calcium but also can relieve pain. Fresh eggshells from free-ranging, local hens (I wouldn’t use conventional store-bought eggs for this) crushed and steeped in hot, nearly boiling, water can be all that you may need to do to enhance your bones and relieve your pain.  Egg shells/egg membranes are rich in calcium and minerals.  Steeping them in water leeches the minerals and calcium out of the shells and into the water.  Pretty simple.  This water aids in the building of strong bones.  It aids in the relief of bone pain, joint pain, and inflammation.  It’s even been found beneficial in preventing and easing arthritis!

It turns out, there are two popular ways to utilize the nutrients from the eggshell.  The first involves steeping the eggshells in hot water, like we’ve done (or another option would be to add them to your homemade chicken stock while it simmers – same idea).  The second involves washing out the eggshell, allowing it to dry for a day on the counter, and then grinding it in a coffee grinder or spice grinder until it’s a fine powder.  This powder can then be added to smoothies or oatmeal or what-have-you.   This would be another easy way to make your own free calcium and mineral supplement!  In Norway for folks grind the eggshells up with their coffee beans and steep them both together for a little extra morning calcium boost in their coffee.  Now there’s an idea!  Plus, egg shells apparently take some of the acid out of the coffee – making it more palatable.

So instead of spending all this money on tablets, utilize the egg shells and get natures own.

If you can't live your truth, then its just not worth living.

Depression Can Be Treated With Food And Exercise

I know many are bent on taking pills, prescription drugs are at a all time high.  But just the side affects of these pharmaceuticals are enough to put you off taking them. The majority of depression stems from either a chemical imbalance or are situational.

Either way, and this is a personal choice, I would rather not ingest pills to solve what my body and mother earth can take care of. Please note, this is personal choice and there are some really severe cases that do need to be on a regimen directed by a doctor, but for those who feel that they would like to learn how to keep depression at bay, please read on.

First of all I can safely say that the majority of individuals that suffer from depression are most likely not getting enough sleep or rest. It is important to allow your body to unwind and recharge. Without getting to technical, let just say that like a battery, your brain requires rest to function properly. So a minimum of 8 hours, I recommend 10, especially if you are burning the candles at both ends, will allow your brain to recharge and provide you with a healthy mind set. We are being taxed in ways that our body was not intended, hours in front of a computer and not giving our eyes adequate down time, places an over load on your neurological system, which can lead to mental imbalance.

Water, although not at the top of the list of favorite beverage for many, is the most important and needed in our body. Dehydration can cause all sorts of mental and physical imbalances. Start by increasing your intake, slowly but steadily, a cup a day till you reach a gallon. Diminish the amount of caffeine you take in a day which tends to dehydrate your body and short circuit your neurons (brain cells).

My other recommendation is to add Fish oil or Omega 3 supplementation to your diet, this keeps your nervous system working properly. If you are not a vegan add Salmon to your diet at least twice a week. Load up on alkalizing veggies, such as kale, spinach and collard greens, this will fuel your brain, keep you sharp, and ward away the blues. Eat foods that give you brain power and keep your dendrites, these are the ultimate connectors in your brain, working steady.

Start by adding 20 minutes of any kind of physical activity daily, increasing your circulation and oxygen intake will improve your mental health.

Eating for Winter

It is apparent that the colder months increase our appetite, we tend to want to indulge in comfort foods, become depressed and get cabin fever, hence we eat more. There is a way to change this behavior. Your body is in search of warmth and you do use up more calories trying to keep warm, therefore, the formula for success is to take naps and meditate more often to give your body some down time.

When we are tired and keeping warm makes your body work harder, you need to recharge more often, even if it means taking a power nap two to three times a day. Also make sure you drink water at room temperature and add a tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar to your water, this will help decrease your appetite as well as create a better PH in your system.  There are many things that you can do to weather out the winters and prevent from gaining weight. If you want to learn more about this, you can contact me and we will put together a plan specifically for you for the winter months. You don't have to be a victim of your habits, genes or lifestyle, take control once and for all.

Don't forget to purchase The Healthy Travelers Guide, in this guide I teach you many tricks to prevent gaining weight during vacation, to keep your weight off year round, work out without going to a gym, and how to properly eat and combine your foods to make you burn fat all the time. Also I teach you how to train your will power so you stop failing time and time again.

Nutrition How Important Is It?

Nutrition: How Important Is It?
- by Mark Angelo Cummings

I am sure you have heard the saying: You are what you eat. This is not just a funny statement, but an actual fact that has been proven time and time again.  Every cell in your body is controlled by nutrition.
Now...notice I did not say food, for not all food has nutritional value.  Most overweight individuals are actually malnourished! That’s right: you heard correctly, obesity is a form of malnutrition. Your body has learned to feed off of itself and produce excess fat.   The average American diet consists of junk food and empty calories. This in turn creates a deficit of vitamins and minerals that normally help nourish your cells which are responsible for all the functionality of your machinery.
When we eat junk, our bodies will respond with toxic buildup, gas, stomach problems, irritability, headaches, aches, pains, and depression, just to name a few. We however fail to understand or even accept that the reason we feel the way we do, is because we eat poorly.  Our bodies need vitamins and minerals, water, macro-nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates and fats in a correct combination to have proper cell functionality.
Cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, just to name a few, are caused by the added processed garbage and fast foods we ingest.  Add lack of exercise, stress, and not enough rest and we have the human species before us today; tired, ill, overworked and underpaid...and who are constantly popping pills to feel and look better.
We have been programmed to find quick fixes: either via medication or through quick weight loss scams that not only place your health in danger, but ruin your metabolism.  We visit our health care providers with the idea in mind that they will make all ailments go away with a magic pill and make it all better.
After all, every commercial you see on the hypnotic television set, instigates the idea to ask your doctor about the blue or red pill which will make everything okay. We of course ignore the long list of side effects and precautions that go with it just to receive instant relief and results.
We are a nation that is overfed, yet malnourished. We eat way too many calories in one sitting, empty calories that leave our bodies starved for nutrition.  This in turn creates sugar cravings which leads to increase insulin production and in turn creates hypoglycemia or diabetes.
Our Ancestors had no McDonald’s, Burger King, pretzels, white flour, sugar and the junk we consume today. They ate what they killed, picked from a tree and went on with their business. They where grazers, hunters and gatherers who did not indulge in today’s practice of consuming more than what they needed. When we needed energy, the body would get it from its stored fat. And we maintained a leaner and healthier physique.
You see, fat is stored calories which are to be used in a time of need. With the way we eat today, and the lack of physical activity, our fat cells are always in surplus and make us vulnerable to diseases.  We have taught our bodies to use processed garbage for energy; and our bodies have forgotten how to utilize that stored fat for energy. In turn, our entire lifestyle brings forth ailments and imbalances that lead us into a dead end.
We have created a love affair with food, forgetting its true intent and purpose.  We eat when we are sad, when we are happy, and create activities and festivities that revolve around food.  It is time we took our health into our own hands, and start to respect our bodies, learning what we need to eat for greater health.
Diets do not work and only create further damage to our metabolism and cellular function.  We do however need to learn the proper balance and nutritional intake needed to bring forth a well-functioning metabolic rate, fat to muscle ratio, and overall fat burning.   Our bodies are resilient and will respond well when proper care is given.
To get started: start a journal and write all the foods you are eating on a daily basis. Learn to eat small meals throughout the day with proper combination of protein, low glycemic carbohydrates and healthy fats. Make sure you are drinking a minimum of half a gallon of water to one gallon daily. Water is very important for cell function and is a natural diuretic.  If we take a look at babies and how they eat every 2 to 3 hours, we can learn that this is our natural eating schedule.  By following this rule of thumb, small, balanced meals will place less stress on your digestive system. It will provide your body with an immediate nutritional need fulfilled, and will not allow your body to store fat, hence increasing and improving your metabolism and overall health.
An example of a meal would be ½ cup of oatmeal cooked in water. This is considered your carbohydrate...3 scrambled egg whites, this is considered your lean protein, and a handful of walnuts, this is considered your healthy fats.   If you follow the rule of threes, which means you divide your plate into thirds, utilizing the portions of proteins, carbohydrates and fats to make up your meal, This will improve your metabolism. It will allow your body to build lean muscle as long as you indulge in a workout routine that includes weight lifting, and follow a sensible nutritional plan.
Staying away from processed food and eating nutritionally sound meals that will provide the proper vitamins and minerals needed to help your cellular system function accordingly is the name of the game. Remember, you are what you eat and nutrition is definitely the answer to a well balanced and healthy body.

Breaking Down The Barriers

We tend to build all sorts of walls around us and use food as a crush of sorts to make us feel protected and safe. Fat in general is a way of building that fort that we create to make us less vulnerable around others. We have learn to use food as protection, a feel good substance and an over all a way to hide what we feel inside.

Sharing your feelings with others verses keeping them in and masking it with food can be a way of healing and learning to have a better relationship with food. We feel certain connections with comfort foods that has lead us to an unhealthy way of eating. Can this relationship be broken and reshaped? Absolutely it can. Look deep within your core and find out what created the barriers and where is the pain coming from? Let me help you through these obstacles and help you achieve your health and fitness goals once and for all. Here is a tip: when you get ready to eat something, ask yourself am I eating because I am hungry, or am I eating because I am in pain, worried, bored or hurt? Be honest with yourself and find a new path to fill your void, something other than food or bad for your health. Remember you are important and are loved.

Failure Leads To Success

How many times have you started a diet, exercise program or engaged in things to improve your health, to shortly after, fall off the wagon? I am sure I am not alone on this one, for to error is to be human. We all want the best for our health, yet many of us fall to quick into temptation, excuses to fill the void of our anger, depression and emptiness.

So in actuality is this such a bad thing? I believe that for every time we fail, we get stronger, we find a new outlook into our quest, and find a new strategy to keep us on the trail. I find with every failure, comes a new gain. Challenges are meant to teach us, if we take this attitude and approach in life, there will never be a reason for us to feel defeated or helpless.

Keep a journal of your every day events, how you feel, the people you encounter, what was the lesson for that day and reflect. Grow stronger with every challenge and failure you encounter and you will rise up like the Phoenix and renew your every intent and situation.

Learning you is an art, many have yet to understand their inner needs, what makes them tick and who they truly are. After all, we live in a world that has programmed us from the time we are babies to believe in everything that is outside of us, and not to listen to our inner voice.

Sometimes a life coach can help you look deep within yourself and assist you in the discovery of your true self. If you would like to set up an appointment with me please feel free to contact me at anytime, I will devote my self to you and help you climb lives mountains and help you see the beauty within.

Health Starts In Your Head

Many do not realize that a healthy mind in turn creates a healthy body. If we are constantly complaining and thinking negative thoughts, every cell in your body reacts and in turn creates diseases. If you take a look at most individuals who are ill, they are either depressed or have a very negative outlook in life.

Tapping in to your spirit Self

I am a big believer in mind over matter. I see us all as a conduit of light and frequency. Our every cell responds to our moods and feelings and when we are in a bad place, our body becomes the center of disease. The weight we put on is not so much from the foods we eat but why we are eating it and how.  For example, if you are eating because you are depressed the negative frequency will enable the food to get stored as fat. Now I am not saying that you can eat whatever you want all the time and not gain weight, but if you honor your food, and the time that you are eating, the probability of that food not hindering you are far less. Also when you are in a good head space, you tend to want to eat things that are better for you, than not.

The Spirit Within

What is our purpose? Why are we going round and round in the same cycle in life? Do we have control of who we are and what we do? These and many questions cross my mind and life path. It takes a long time for many of us to understand the reason we are here and why life's turn of events take place. If we learn to listen to our inner voice and look at life with kinder eyes we might get the message and lesson being presented in front of us.

Our bodies are our temple. I am sure you have heard this time and time again, yet do we really understand this phrase? Placing ourselves second over situations to make money, get instant gratification or to just get along to get along can lead to the many imbalances we see before us. Take the time to listen to your body, your mind and soul. You are your friend or your worst enemy.

I know not everyone has the will to make change, addicting personalities, weakness and just situations that make us feel out of control can lead us to sabotage our best intentions. Be gentle, but be consistent with your goals and motives. If you fail, wipe your knees and start over. Take the time to be out in nature, ask yourself is this that I am doing going to make me healthier or bring on sickness. Learn to read your vibrations and the vibrations of everything around you.

If you are looking to make a change in your life and are serious about creating a positive outcome, then shoot me an email.

In the meantime follow your heart, your dreams and realize that life is the biggest gift and adventure we have been given as spirits having a human experience.

I Love You, but remember to Love yourselves too.

changing bodies, mind  and Spirit is my specialty.
